My five favourites – March edition

My Five Favourites

Oh my. I would never have guessed when I published my February edition, that the next time I wrote this regular post we’d be in lockdown!

How are you all doing? We’re into Day 5 of lockdown here in New Zealand now and coping well at this stage. I realise it’s early days for us as some of you have been self-isolating for much longer already. And I hope we can all continue being as positive as possible as we navigate our way in this changed and changing environment.

My heart goes out to all those involved at the frontline of this dire situation. I am so grateful and thankful for all the healthcare workers, those who work in pharmacies, laboratories, grocery stores, delivery services and other essential services. Also, everyone who works behind the scenes to enable essential services to continue operating and supplying society. It’s an incredibly stressful time for so many.

I want to share my March Favourites with you today. And I hope that you find something fun to watch, read or listen to in this post, to ease the anxiety you may be feeling at the moment, even for a little bit.

My Five Favourites for March

My Five Favourites

This month we’re watching The Sopranos because we didn’t watch it when it first came out and I’d always heard great things about it. If you’ve never watched it, I would highly recommend it. That series won lots of awards and for good reason. It might be a bit dated now, but that definitely hasn’t detracted from our enjoyment of the show.

The only crazy thing about watching it during this time of Coronavirus is that I’m so aware of how often everyone touches their faces! (But that goes for anything we watch these days.) Oh, and it saddens me knowing that James Gandolfini (the main character) has died in real life because the show portrays him in such an endearing way and he really creeps into your heart.

And I’m looking forward to watching Little Fires Everywhere when it makes its way to our screens. I read and loved the book by the same name, written by Celeste Ng.

App Recommendations

As I mentioned before, I downloaded the Calm app and I’m meditating once a day now (sometimes more). I’m really needing this right now especially after watching the daily government update on TV!

I’ve also downloaded the Houseparty app although I haven’t got into it much yet. Maybe I’ll use it more when the novelty of real-life house parties with my family bubble subsides. For those who haven’t heard of Houseparty, it’s a social networking app that offers group video chatting. There are also a few games that you can play together on the app. And you can download it on your phone or your desktop. It seems to be very popular with teens and young adults, but I’ve noticed a few friends in my age group also trying it out.

Or maybe I’ll stick to WhatsApp for family and friend get-togethers like I did last night. We did a video get-together and it worked really well. What are you using to stay in touch with your loved ones?
Book Recommendation

I’ve read four great books in the month since I lasted posted (aff links):

My Five Favourites

I’m loving all the good news, happy Instagram accounts that are prolific at the moment. They’re much needed and doing a great service to spread love, joy and positivity during this trying time. My favourite ones are Good News MovementTank’s Good NewsThe Happy Broadcast, and The Happy Newspaper.

And I’ve recently started following some funny accounts to inject a few laughs into my day when I find myself scrolling – Andy Lassner (he’s an executive producer on the Ellen Show and he’s a funny guy), and speaking of Ellen – her recent calls to celebrities posts have been very entertaining. And if you love animals, I’m enjoying Animals Doing Things.

My Five Favourites

I enjoyed and learnt a lot listening to Goop’s Navigating the COVID-19 Pandemic episode this week.

I hope you find something you enjoy in My Five Favourites today! My Five Favourites will be back next month.

And if you’ve got any recommendations or suggestions please share them in the comments section below so that others can see them too. We all need some inspiration right now. Sharing is caring.

Keep safe, everyone! x
