7 fun things to do while you’re in self-isolation

I think it’s safe to say that we’re all looking for fun things to do while we’re at home in self-isolation. Right? Because after washing our hands twenty times there are still a good few hours left in a day.

So I thought I’d put together a little list of 7 fun things to do while we’re in self-isolation.

Do a virtual tour of your favourite museum. Many museums are currently offering virtual tours. So you can visit one of the many museums that offer these – in your pyjamas! One of my favourite museums is the Musée D’Orsay in Paris. It currently has a fascinating online exhibit about how this grand museum went from being a train station to the magnificent museum it is today.

Or maybe you want to show the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy some love? I enjoyed this Renaissance online exhibit because myths fascinate me endlessly.

Watch a National Theatre play at home. The National Theatre is offering live streaming of some of their brilliant plays during the months of April and May. So if you are missing the theatre or maybe would just like a little culture, the National Theatre has you covered. The plays they’re streaming for free on YouTube were filmed live on stage by the National Theatre. You can watch these amazing plays on their YouTube channel.

Plan a home decorating project. Now that I’ve been living this slow life and spending all this time at home, I’ve decided that I need to stop procrastinating about my home decorating projects. So I’ve been trawling Pinterest for inspiration and I’ve now got some exciting plans for our TV room. I’m thinking of painting a wall, putting some doors in and possibly getting a new rug. As soon as we’re released from captivity. If there’s something I’ve learnt since being in lockdown, it’s that my home is a huge source of comfort and happiness for me. And I want to spend more time making it the best it can be to contribute to making our lives even happier.

Declutter your wardrobe. Okay, this might not sound like fun for some of you. But as soon as it’s done, you’ll definitely feel better. I can vouch for that. And maybe even try putting together a capsule wardrobe – it’s unquestionably a simpler way to organise your wardrobe. It’ll also make it easier to put together outfits every day. And for those of you living in the southern hemisphere, here are some ideas for an Autumn Capsule Wardrobe.

Read a book or two or more. I recently put together a post with 14 Fantastic Books to Read While You’ve Got More Free Time. Also, I found 21 books that will put you in a good mood, guaranteed and that’s a fun list too.

Try your hand at flower arranging. Gardening can help to relieve stress, but if you’re not into getting your hands dirty, you could try flower arranging. And it’s something that is easy to do while in self-isolation. Grocery stores sell bunches of flowers if you don’t have flowers growing in your garden or if you don’t have a garden. Also, you don’t need any special skills or tools. And let’s face it, we definitely have the time to practice and get increasingly better at this while we’re in lockdown.

And at the end of your endeavour, you’ll have a pretty bunch of flowers to brighten up your home.

Check out how easy flower arranging can be – no huge fuss, just simple, relaxing fun. Also, your stress levels could certainly benefit from this exercise. And speaking of exercise…

Do an online exercise class. My husband’s gym has online virtual (pre-recorded) classes that he can access so the two of us did a yoga class together this week. And I really enjoyed it so I think I’ll do it again. Check whether your gym or yoga studio is offering online classes (possibly via Zoom) and try it out.

I also came across Melissa Wood Health on Instagram where so many people rave about her method. Find out all about it on her website where she offers a 7-day free trial.
