8 amazing cleansers for a youthful skin in midlife

Best Cleansers

Are you using the best cleanser for healthy, youthful skin in midlife? Or does your skin need something more?

Part of my midlife journey has involved coming to terms with my fine lines and wrinkles. And this has led me on a quest to try new skincare products, searching for the ones that make some kind of difference to the appearance of my skin and ultimately make me feel good about myself.

Today I’m going to be talking about cleansers. I mean who wouldn’t want to trade in their dull skin for a healthy, glowing complexion? And so it makes sense to start off by cleansing well (and possibly even double cleansing) so that your skin can then properly absorb the serums and moisturisers that you apply afterwards.

During our lockdown, I did a fair bit of online shopping. And the items that I was purchasing the most? Beauty products. Because I’m obsessed. I’d already been trying a few products that I’d seen recommended on the internet so I thought I’d continue my research, using the money that I would have spent on facials, to purchase a few more products. *insert happy dance here*

How about you? Do you love treating yourself with skincare products? I hope so because today I’m going to be showing you which cleansing products I’ve been loving and also some that I’ve got on my wishlist.

My 8 Best Cleansers – the cleansers I love and the ones on my wishlist

1.Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser, BHA Exfoliator Clears Pores & Brightens Skin

This brand is amazing! And I adore this daily cleanser. It is a gentle cleansing and exfoliating treatment that polishes dull, congested skin leaving it looking and feeling healthy and bright. And it smells so lovely. I feel almost virtuous when I use this brand because it’s 100% natural, and it actually works.

2. SkinCeuticals LHA Cleanser Gel

I’ve been using this cleanser for over a month now and I love how clean my skin feels after using it. This is another exfoliating cleanser featuring lipo-hydroxy acid, glycolic acid and salicylic acid that decongests your pores and brightens your skin. This one doesn’t smell as lovely as the Tata Harper one, but when my skin feels like it needs some serious decongesting, this one does the trick.

3. Medik8 Surface Radiance Cleanse

Medik8 is another great brand that delivers results. ( My local facial salon uses and carries this range so I have a lot of faith in its efficacy.) And although I haven’t tried this cleanser yet, I’d be very keen to give it a go. They had me at ‘radiance’.

4. Murad Age Reform AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser

Murad is a clinical skincare brand created by Dr Howard Murad in 1989. Dr Murad believes in the connection of the body, skin and mind, caring for your body from the inside-out. They call this Connected Beauty. The 4 main pillars of Connected Beauty include ‘eat your water’, ‘awaken your body’, ‘be kind to your mind’ and ‘nourish your skin’. This is another brand that I’ve recently discovered (I’m using their Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisturizer at the moment) and I am impressed with their ethos.

5. Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel

I’ve been hearing good things about this UK brand so this product is high up on my wishlist. Oskia contains a natural form of organic sulphur, MSM, that boosts collagen production, promotes circulation and helps decrease inflammation for a brighter, younger-looking appearance. I think this is a great choice for mature skins.

6. Eve Lom Cleansing Balm

I love this cleansing balm because it feels like you’re having a salon facial when using it. You massage the balm into your skin to melt away your makeup and then apply a hot cloth to your face to activate the oils. Finishing with a cold cloth to remove the remaining balm, you’re left with incredibly clean and hydrated skin. This cleanser does take some time to apply, massage and remove, but when you’ve got the time and need the pampering – you can’t lose with this one.

7. Tata Harper Nourishing Oil Cleanser And Makeup Remover Natural Skincare

This is the Tata Harper cleanser that I’ll be trying next because I’ve heard such great things about it. And I love this brand. And if the frequent “Out of Stock” signs are anything to go by, this product is a winner. Also, an oil cleanser is something that I often see recommended for mature, dry skins so I think this is definitely worth trying.

8. Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Cleanser

And for those who like foaming cleansers – this daily foaming cleanser has a duo of alpha hydroxy acids (glycolic and lactic) coupled with Kate’s ‘three Ps for perfect skin’ (pineapple, pumpkin and papaya enzymes) that leaves your skin smooth and radiant.

Bonus recommendation: Kate Somerville also has a new cleanser – Kate Somerville DeliKate Soothing Cleanser which contains ceramides, peptides, ginger root and Tasmannia Lanceolata fruit extract to strengthen the skin’s barrier, relieve redness and calm irritation. The cucumber seed oil also helps to calm and soothe skin affected by sunburn, pollution and chemical treatments. Apparently, it leaves your skin super soft.  Both of these cleansers are on my wishlist of products I want to try.
