My five favourites – May edition

my five favourites

I’m writing this ‘My five favourites’ post while we’re on a road trip in the South Island of New Zealand. Yes, New Zealand went to Level 2 recently which means we can now travel around our country  – so we decided to hit the road and get to see more of the beautiful South Island of New Zealand. (At the time of my writing this post, New Zealand has one active Covid-19 case.)

We realise how fortunate we are being able to do this trip. And it did feel a little weird being at the airport and flying down south, I must say. But it’s wonderful to be out and about enjoying a change of scenery again. And being autumn, it’s been incredible getting to experience all the autumnal colours on display around every corner.

And now I want to share my May Favourites with you. I hope that you find something fun to watch, read or listen to in this post – especially those of you who are still in varying degrees of lockdown around the world.

My Five Favourites for May

My Five Favourites

At the beginning of this month, I watched the series, Normal People. Whoa! It was phenomenal. So real. And human. And relatable. I loved the book by the same name and I got an eerie feeling of déjá vu while watching this series – it was that similar to how I imagined it while reading the book. So many deep feelings. (And quite a lot of sex – so be prepared.) Highly recommend.

We also watched the movie, Bombshell, on our projector screen. If you’ve watched The Morning Show (Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston) you’ll love this one. This Me Too themed movie has some great acting – Charlise Theron is truly a sensational actor!

App Recommendations

The app I used for my to-do lists (and other lists to help with organizing my life) was recently discontinued and replaced with the Microsoft ‘To Do’ app which I downloaded and am really enjoying. This great little app is available for free, and syncs across iPhone, Android, Windows 10, and the web.

Book Recommendation

My reading seems to have slowed down to almost a stop at this stage. I just haven’t been in the mood to read lately. So I’ve only got one book to recommend this month – Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout. (I enjoyed Elizabeth Strout’s Olive Again earlier this year. So I actually read these books in the incorrect order which wasn’t a problem, but if you haven’t read either of them yet, I would recommend reading them in the right order.)

I then bought myself a copy of Older but Better, but Older by Caroline de Maigret and Sophie Mas to bring along on our road trip. (These authors also wrote How to be Parisian Wherever You Are: Love, Style, and Bad Habits.) And I’m looking forward to starting it tonight!

My Five Favourites

I’ve started following a few new accounts lately – and the ones I’m really enjoying are Eyeswoon (Athena Calderone is an author, Interior Designer, Visual + Culinary Storyteller, Entertaining Expert) and Caroline Hirons, a skincare specialist whose Instagram Live’s are wildly entertaining. She certainly knows her stuff when it comes to skincare.

My Five Favourites

Recently I’ve listened to How to structure a skincare routine and Everything you should know about hyaluronic acid on Beauty IQ Uncensored. I told you I am obsessed with skincare!

Anyway, I hope you find something you enjoy in My Five Favourites today! I’ll be back with the June edition at the end of next month.

And if you’ve got any recommendations or suggestions please share them in the comments section below so that others can see them too. We all still need some inspiration right now. Sharing is caring.

Keep safe, everyone! x
