Let’s face it, we can’t live without our phones and helpful apps nowadays. Well, I can’t anyway. How about you? And I guess what makes them so incredibly useful (besides communication and accessibility) is all the amazing apps on those things. I have three screens worth of phone apps that have impacted my life. And try as I might, I can’t bring myself to delete any of them.
I mostly use my phone to wake me up in the morning, text and call people and play music. But I also have helpful apps to operate the lights in my home and run my iRobot vacuum! Hah. There’s no denying that phones and apps are a way of life now, so today I’m going to share a few of my favourite apps with you.
Here are my most helpful (and used) apps
My banking app. I only downloaded my banking app about a year ago and now I don’t know how I lived without it. It allows me to do quick transfers while I’m out which I seem to be doing more often lately. It works for me because I find that if I don’t do something immediately, the chances of me forgetting about it by the time I get home are extremely high! Is this a middle-aged thing?
Spotify. It took a while to understand how to use this app properly, but now that we’re set up on a family package and I know what I’m doing, I love it. I have put together some awesome playlists that I listen to in my car when the radio DJs talk too much and get on my nerves.
To Do. I use this app for storing all of my lists – my grocery list, what to pack for a trip, things I need to do – and I love that you can add your own custom lists and check things off too.
An app called Flo tracks your menstrual cycle (and has a few other great features too). I find this one very handy to keep an eye on my cycle as I’m nearing menopause. (And to be aware of the days when I become ‘grouchy’ and over-sensitive. Haha.) This app is a lifesaver!
Pinterest. I’m the type of person who enjoys keeping all my information organised in a central place. And Pinterest is amazing for this type of thing. Also, it’s a brilliant search engine for all things pretty. Going on a trip and need inspiration? Pinterest. Redoing a section of your garden? Pinterest.

Here are more of my favourite apps that I love but don’t use as often
Uber. How awesome is this app anyway? Do you use it extensively? Do your kids use it?
Shazam. For those times you hear a song and want to know what it is. This app also keeps a history of the songs that you’ve Shazam’ed so that you can add them to a playlist later. Boom! Love that, because who remembers those kinds of things later?
My gym app. Okay, this is a contentious one because I haven’t been going to the gym much lately! But when I do get back there, I will be able to check out the class timetables and book my slot. Yeah, right. But it’s great that I can!
GoodReads. I can’t believe everyone doesn’t use this app! It’s the best. It keeps lists of books you’ve read and books you want to read. I also opt for their annual Reading Challenge and love that it keeps a list of the books you read in a year. If you’re on that app, please look me up because I love sharing book recommendations.
And those are my 9 most helpful apps. What are yours?
