These are six of the new things I tried in June. I celebrated my birthday last month so I had lots to choose from, but these were the stand-outs.
I love wearing knitwear in winter because it equates to a quick way of putting together a good-looking outfit. (Aside from the fact that it keeps you warm, of course.) I tend to live in jeans which means it’s simple to move from shirts and jeans in spring, to a knit and jeans in winter. Easy peasy. And this soft and light knit pairs perfectly with blue, white, ecru and black jeans. Also, it’s an oversized fit which updates my capsule wardrobe this season. I give this knit five stars.
One of my sisters gifted these Tevas to me for my birthday. And I’m excited because I can use them on our summer trip this year. I also own a black pair (in a different style). I’ll admit that these probably fall into the same shoe category as Crocs (comfortable, but um, ugly). Despite this, I reckon you can pull them off as trendy when you wear them with certain outfits. I will say, however, that you’ll need to proceed with caution – because, in an effort to come across as unironically cool, you could simply be presenting as ironically uncool.
Turns out my Summer Travel Essentials post was the source for ideas for a few of my birthday gifts this year. (Note to self: Next year I should do a post about jewellery.) My daughters bought me this water bottle and I’m more than thrilled. I have the coffee cup from the same range too so now I’ve got a stylish set. Yay!
Uniqlo round mini shoulder bag (gift)
After telling a friend who was visiting Melbourne (where they have a Uniqlo store) to get herself one of these ‘it’ bags of the moment, she very kindly bought one of them for me too. Did I mention how much I love birthdays? I can confirm that it is indeed a very lovely little crossbody bag – lightweight, soft, and it can hold a surprisingly large number of items.
7 new things I tried in May 2023 (some were amazing)
Wonderboom portable speaker (gift)
What can I say? It was a good birthday! This was one of the gifts my husband gave to me, knowing we’d use it a lot on our trip. Boom box of 2023. But I won’t be carrying it on my shoulder because firstly I didn’t do that with the original boom box back in the day either and secondly, I would look ridiculous.
I mentioned that I’d bought this vitamin C serum to try when I finished my Paula’s Choice one. And I’m here to report that it’s a good one. Although I prefer a cream format, this serum is gentle but effective. Goes on easily and dries quickly.
