My five favourites – the September edition

my five favourites

Hi friends! It’s time for this month’s My five favourites. I just got back from a few days away with my family and it was lovely. We stayed in a great little place in a town called Ohakune, five hours south of Auckland. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much snow (we were hoping to ski) and it also rained quite a bit while we were there. But that didn’t stop us from having some great family time together anyway.

And now onto this month’s My five favourites:

My Five Favourites

We recently finished the TV series Casual and if you haven’t watched this yet – I’d highly recommend it. It’s about a brother (Tommy Dewey) and sister and all of their relationships (in a nutshell). It’s funny and sad and there’s a lot of sex (don’t say I didn’t warn you). Also, the female character is a middle-aged woman (Michaela Watkins) who is going through all sorts of experiences that many of us midlifers can relate to. I might not subscribe to her way of life (being married and all), but this show portrays an honest look at life and dating for our age group. Definitely worth a watch.

Also, one of my best shows at the moment is Ted Lasso starring Jason Sudeikis. Who would have thought I’d enjoy a story about an American who coaches a British football (soccer) team? But it’s so good! Yes, it’s also super-cheesy, but therein lies its charm. This show makes me feel all the feels and I hate that I can’t binge-watch this one.

The Goldfinch is a good movie to watch too. I’d read the book (by Donna Tartt) so I wanted to see how it had been adapted to the screen. (Verdict? Pretty good.) This is the story of Theo Decker whose mom died in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art when he was 13 years old and how his life unfolds after this.

Oh, and if you haven’t watched The Social Dilemma yet, I propose that you do. It’s worth being reminded of the pitfalls of social media and to hear an explanation as to why polarization is becoming more of a problem around the world lately.

Book Recommendation

I’ve eventually read Untamed by Glennon Doyle! Yes, I’m late to this party, but I’m celebrating now. Better late than never. Have you read this one? Ooh, and I also loved Anxious people by Fredrik Backman. This book made me laugh and cry – I love this author’s work. (This section includes affiliate links.)

Thanks so much, Christine! I have lots of fun writing them. And I’m so pleased that Ted Lasso is coming back for a second season. 😀 Hope you’re keeping well.
