My five favourites – the August edition

I’ve decided to change up My five favourites again – just a small tweak this time. Because I’ve been struggling to find new and exciting apps to share every month. So I’m going to replace that category with ‘Miscellaneous’ which can include anything that’s caught my attention recently that I’d like to share with you.

Okay, kicking right off…

My Five Favourites

First up, Stateless – an Australian television drama series starring Yvonne Strahovski and Cate Blanchett. Inspired by the true story of an Australian citizen, unlawfully detained in an immigration detention centre, this is a fascinating series. It’s about boat asylum seekers, a cult and the many sad stories surrounding refugees – and it’ll break your heart. But watch it anyway, as it’s important.

I also watched Never Have I Ever. This is an American coming-of-age comedy-drama created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher. I loved this series – even though it’s about a teenager, it kept me riveted! And I’m excited that Netflix renewed this series for a second season. PS John McEnroe narrates this and even makes an appearance in one of the episodes.

We also watched the new Perry Mason. This is another American series, this time a legal period drama starring Matthew Rhys. Set in 1932 Los Angeles, the series centres on the original story of famed defence lawyer Perry Mason, based on characters from Erle Stanley Gardner’s novels.

Book Recommendation

I have now completed the workbook, Me and White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad and I’d recommend doing the work set out in it. Even if you feel as if you know all this information, it’s vital to be taught these lessons from a BIPOC perspective. Mindsets need to change.

I then read Wow, no thank you by Samantha Irby whose fantastic writing style has me wanting to read more of her work. And Grown Ups was a light read and just what I needed. Now I’m reading Growing Young, a non-fiction book that is teaching me all sorts of interesting information about longevity. (This section includes affiliate links.)

My Five Favourites

Accounts I’m loving at the moment: Stephanie Yeboah (author of Fattily Ever After), Glographics and Design Mom.My Five Favourites

I am LOVING The Michelle Obama Podcast – a new podcast over on Spotify. Michelle is my hero! I particularly loved her interview with her husband (her first interview on the podcast) – that is one dynamic couple! I actually find myself sad when I finish listening to an episode because I have to wait a whole week for the next one.

My Five Favourites

Did you hear that The Killers have a new album out? It’s called Imploding the Mirage. And it’s so good! Also, I changed the theme on my blog recently – do you like the new layout?

Okay, that’s all for now. I hope you find something you like in my recommendations list today. I’ll be back with the September edition at the end of next month.
