My five favourites – the June edition

my five favourites

Hi – yes, it’s My Five Favourites time again. And, surprise! This is my second post in one week! Because when inspiration strikes, there’s just no stopping me. 😉

Here are my five favourites for this month. I hope you find something fun to watch, read, follow or listen to.

My Five Favourites

First up, we watched Sweet Tooth, a fantasy drama series based on a comic book. And if you’re put off by the sound of that, don’t be because this is a fantastic show. This series follows a topical theme – a virus pandemic – but with a bit of a spin. Not only is there a virus that is killing off the human race, but hybrid babies enter the picture too. Part human, part animal, these hybrids become hunted by humans because of their suspected cause (and potential cure) of the virus. The story tracks the life of a half-deer hybrid called Gus and his journey in this new world. This very cute series was filmed in New Zealand and it was great fun to spot places that we recognized in our city.

And then we watched Feel Good, a British comedy-drama series created by Mae Martin who also stars in the show. This is a semi-autobiographical story about Mae’s relationship with her girlfriend, George. The acting is great in this one and the story is heartfelt, real and important. It reminded me a bit of the show, Fleabag, actually. So if you enjoyed that one, you’ll probably love this too.

Book Recommendation

I’ve read three fantastic books this month and I’d recommend all of them. I especially enjoyed Caste by Isabel Wilkerson because I learnt so much about how racism started and became systemic in America. I think everyone should read this book to become aware of why we think the way we do about our place in this world so that we can make some much-needed mental shifts.
