Hi friends. How have you all been? I’ve been loving snuggling up at home this winter, reading and watching TV shows and movies particularly. Here are my five favourites for July.
My five favourites:
This month we watched season 7 of Bosch – which didn’t disappoint. And if you enjoy a good police series, I’d recommend watching this series. It looks like this will be the final season, but the news is that there will be a spin-off series that will feature Bosch as a private detective. And I’m here for it.
We’ve also been making our way through Virgin River, an American romantic drama that centres around Mel Monroe, a midwife and nurse practitioner who answers an ad to work in the small northern California town called Virgin River. Mel is wanting to start fresh in this remote town after enduring some tragic life experiences. So if you’re after something lighthearted, this one is for you.
We watched The Mauritanian after it was recommended by a friend and what an amazing movie! It’s a legal drama based on the true story of Mohamedou Ould Slahi, a Mauritanian man who was held at Guantanamo Bay detention camp for 14 years without charge. Yes, this film is difficult to watch at times, but it’s important viewing. There is also some great acting by Tahar Rahim (Slahi), Jodie Foster (the lawyer who defends him), Shailene Woodley and Benedict Cumberbatch.
We also loved The Kindness of Strangers because it is the sweetest movie. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to give anything away. But trust me – you’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you won’t regret watching it.
I absolutely LOVED Writers & Lovers by Lily King. Such beautiful writing. In addition, I also enjoyed Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid. (She also wrote Daisy Jones and the Six.) And next on my list to read is The Menopause Manifesto.
My Instagram recommendation for this month is Grown and Flown, an account for parents of teens, college students and young adults. “Because parenting never ends.”
My podcast picks for this month are:
Body stuff with Jen Gunter: What’s normal anxiety and what’s an anxiety disorder?
The world’s first podcast with Erin & Sara Foster: The Foster Sisters’ Sister.
The Xennial women’s health issue no one’s talking enough about. (Huffpost)
Every single question I asked before getting veneers. (Adore Beauty)
Also, I’m trying this SPF right now – and I’m LOVING it!
And How to Become a Master at Talking to Strangers. (Entrepreneur)
And that’s all for this month’s edition of My five favourites. But I’ll be back with the August edition at the end of next month. In the meantime, check the ‘Regulars’ dropdown menu for all of My five favourites posts, if you’re looking for more suggestions.
