My five favourites – the January edition

My Five Favourites

Hello friends. How’s your 2021 going so far? We really can’t complain here in New Zealand because life has been more or less ‘normal’ here lately. But I’ve still decided to have very low expectations for this year so that I can only be pleasantly surprised if/when life improves around the world!

How about you? What have you been up to lately? Decluttered your entire house? (Me.) Finished watching Netflix? (Working really hard on this one.) Started a new hobby? (Nah, too busy clearing and cleaning.)

We were lucky enough to enjoy a week away at the very beginning of this month – and what a treat that was. I realize that we’re incredibly lucky to have been able to travel when so many around the world are in lockdown again.

I shared a few of my photos over on Instagram as armchair travel content for those who are staying at home at the moment. It could also possibly be seen as travel inspiration for when the world opens up and we can travel to all the beautiful places around the world again.

And now I want to share My five favourites for January – here they are:

My Five Favourites

We eventually finished watching Bones and I must say that I’m actually missing those characters after having them in our TV room for so many months! (12 seasons will do that to you.)

We also finished watching Bridgerton which I see has gained mixed reviews in the media. I quite enjoyed it – especially the music and the outfits. Have you seen this one?

I also watched (and recommend) a documentary called Human Nature – it’s incredibly interesting and informative. Watch this one if you’re interested in genes and DNA. Sounds slightly droll, but it’s done in a very accessible way and you’ll be blown away by how far science has come.

And if you’re looking for something light but incredibly fascinating, watch the new Fran Lebowitz series, Pretend it’s a City by Martin Scorsese. Fran is a captivating 70-year-old who talks about her life in New York City. Each of the seven episodes looks at a different theme (music, money, wellness, books) – with Fran telling stories from her life that will make you feel like you’re sitting at a dinner table with her. She’d make an excellent dinner guest, in my opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed all of it.

And we eventually watched Parasite, the movie that won Best Picture at the Oscars last year. It’s fun and slightly wacky and definitely worth a watch.

We then tore through Lupin which we thoroughly enjoyed it. Can’t wait for the next season.

And lastly, we have just started Game of Thrones! Yes, I know we are very late to this party, but we thought we’d better get in on the action.

Book Recommendation

This month I’ve read these three FABULOUS books which I’d highly recommend:

And I just bought this book about how to cruise through menopause with attitude and style – which I’m looking forward to starting next.

My Five Favourites

For the cat lovers – Purr Purr Club. You’ll have a good laugh watching some of these posts – I certainly did. And we could all use some of those, couldn’t we? I’m also enjoying Art in Aging – an inspirational account about thriving and ageing.

My Five Favourites

My podcast picks for this month are The Quicky – Injectables: What you need to know before you invest in your face and Postcards from Midlife – Body boosters & booze limiters.

My Five Favourites

I recently tried this product and I was blown away by the sensation you feel immediately after you apply it.

Have you heard that you can now view London’s Victoria and Albert Museum’s kimono exhibition online? Check out the first of five videos here.

And that’s all for this month’s edition of My five favourites. I’ll be back with the February edition at the end of next month. Check the ‘Regulars’ dropdown menu for all of My five favourites posts, if you’re looking for more suggestions.
