I’m a little late with this post – mostly because I can’t seem to focus lately. I’m floating around dipping into various parts of my life, and feeling a little rudderless. Please tell me this isn’t just me. The state of the world has me feeling all sorts of weird and I just can’t seem to shake it.
I find myself constantly reading and watching lately to maintain some sort of ‘normal’ – and in case you’re doing the same and are looking for some inspiration, here are my suggestions from June.
I hope that you find something fun to watch, read or listen to – wherever you are in the world, and whatever form of lockdown you’re experiencing.
My Five Favourites from June
First up, I watched the documentary, 13th. This isn’t a new production, but I’d not watched it yet, so I got onto that and I’m so pleased I did. As I mentioned in my previous post, Becoming antiracist is long overdue, this documentary by Ava DuVernay blew me away. It’ll educate you about how slavery has taken on a new form in America since its ‘abolition’.

We also watched The Last Dance – the story of Michael Jordan, his life and time with the Bulls basketball team. This was a fascinating story and had us riveted. Worth a watch.
We also continued watching the latest season of The Sinner series – Season 3 has come out and this is another highly captivating story, albeit sad. And there’s Matt Bomer. (Need I say more?)
Oh, and one more that we quite enjoyed (it’s crazy, funny, sometimes horrendous) is The Great. Looking forward to Season 2.
I made the mistake of downloading the Candy Crush app again – and I find myself mindlessly crushing candy whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed, but I’m not going to recommend doing this because let’s face it, this is a time and joy sucker! Send me some strength to delete this app asap, please!
I’m still working my way through Me and White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad – doing the work. Have any of you read this one yet? And here are a few more that I’ve got on my list to read: (aff links)
My Instagram following list has exploded in the past few weeks and my feed is now full of new voices who are teaching, inspiring and entertaining me. Notable follows – Emmanuel Acho (uncomfortable conversations with a black man), Privtoprog (from privilege to progress), The Female Lead (showing how women shape the world), We March Forth (showcasing the photographic work from women’s rights movements around the world) and Lab Muffin Beauty Science (Michelle Wong covers beauty science and debunks beauty industry myths).
Something to listen to – Doing the Anti-Racism Work – an interview with Layla F. Saad on the Ctrl Alt Delete podcast.
Anyway, I hope you find something you enjoy in My Five Favourites today! I’ll be back with the July edition at the end of the month.
And if you’ve got any recommendations or suggestions please share them in the comments section below so that others can see them too. We all still need some inspiration right now. Sharing is caring.
I hope you’re all keeping well. x
