My favourite anti-ageing smoothie

My Favourite Anti-Ageing Smoothie

I’m all about simplicity this year, so I’m fully into whipping up a nutritious smoothie every morning because it’s a quick and easy way of getting in some of the good nutrients that a middle-aged woman needs daily. And it makes me feel all kinds of virtuous which is a great way to start my day. Hahahahaha! (I highly recommend it!)

Anyway, I made this smoothie one morning a while back and I loved it so much, I’ve pretty much been making it every morning since! (I’m a creature of habit, what can I say?) Here’s what you’ll need to make my favourite anti-ageing smoothie:

My Favourite Anti-Ageing Smoothie

Spinach

This leafy green is loaded with nutrients and antioxidants. It is high in fibre and is a great source of many vitamins and minerals. That’s why it’s a no-brainer to include this in your smoothie, I reckon.

Blueberries

These blue beauties offer many health benefits because they contain vitamins, minerals and a whole lot of other goods that can help with skin health, bone strength, heart health, lowering blood pressure, good digestion and weight loss.

Strawberries

Strawberries are a great source of Vitamin C, manganese, folate and potassium. All this equates to health benefits that include reduced cholesterol, inflammation and blood pressure. Strawberries are also rich in antioxidants, so they can reduce oxidative stress in your cells. And they’re delicious too!

Almond butter

Almonds are high in monounsaturated fats, fibre, protein and nutrients. They are also rich in antioxidants (can you see a distinct theme running through my ingredient choices?). They are also the best source of Vitamin E, and they contain magnesium which is good for lowering blood pressure levels. Almonds can also lower cholesterol levels thereby reducing heart disease. These are amazing nuts and they give the smoothie a nutty flavour which adds beautifully to the other ingredients.

Coconut water

This is what I use for the liquid part of my smoothie. Its benefits include heart health, helping to prevent kidney stones and reducing blood pressure. It also contains antioxidants and helps with hydration.

My Favourite Anti-Ageing Smoothie

Protein powder

This has become a popular nutrient supplement for middle-aged women as it helps to build muscle and repair tissue. It may also assist with weight loss and toning your muscles. Be sure to work out how much protein powder you need as this would differ from person to person depending on how much other protein you are consuming daily. If your diet is already rich in meat, fish, dairy and eggs, you might not need to add a protein powder supplement.

Banana

Bananas contain lots of important nutrients and antioxidants. They help to fill you up and thicken up the smoothie giving it a good consistency.

Collagen powder

This magical powder can improve skin health (reducing wrinkles), assist with joint pain, boost the strength of your nails and hair, increase muscle mass and help inhibit bone loss. Collagen is an important supplement to a middle-aged woman’s diet and adding it to a smoothie is an easy way to consume it.

Chia seeds

These little seeds are packed with good nutrients and antioxidants. Almost all the carbs in chia seeds are fibre which is advantageous, and they are also high in protein which may help you lose weight. They are also high in calcium, magnesium and phosphorus which are important for bone health. And these little seeds are so easy to add to your smoothies.

Quantities of Ingredients

Quantities of each ingredient to make my favourite anti-ageing smoothie would depend on what size smoothie you’d like to make. Obvs. I tend to use the large container of the NutriBullet blender (aff) – which makes about 2 glasses of smoothie mixture.
