So yes, I’ve finally assembled my Autumn Capsule Wardrobe. A first draft, anyway. To be very honest, I’ve still got too many clothes hanging in my wardrobe, but because I’m inclined to procrastinate, I’m calling this progress and cutting myself some slack. How about you? Are you happy with the state of your wardrobe and its contents? Have you been thinking about starting an Autumn Capsule Wardrobe?
Autumn is tricky, though, isn’t it? It’s a season of beauty and gorgeous, warm colours, but it can also be a slightly challenging time to dress for. I’ve learnt over the years that layering is probably the best solution for those in-between weather days, so I’ve included a few cardigans, long tops, jumpers and light jackets in my Autumn Capsule Wardrobe. And I must say that I’ve really enjoyed this process of becoming more intentional about my clothing. This is a new mindset for me and I’m loving it so far.

I’ll note here that I created my Autumn Capsule Wardrobe using many pieces that I already owned, so some of the pieces I have included below are not the exact pieces that I own, but similar to them. You get the idea. Okay, here goes…
My Autumn Capsule Wardrobe
Pants/Trousers
I tend to have a bit of a uniform when I’m at home or out doing chores, so if I’m not in my gym gear, I’m probably wearing jeans or leggings and a tee. I have included a pair of trousers for those times we go out somewhere a little ‘fancier’ at night, though.
Dresses
I like to have a few dresses for those times I want to feel a little more ‘dressed’ up during the day (or when I go to work), so I’ve included four. The black dress is my formal dress.
Jackets
I recently bought this cardigan because it’s so comfortable. I’ve already worn it twice, I love it so much! They also have a black one, but I opted for the tan coloured one as I already had a long, black chunky cardigan.
Tops
I find myself wearing neutral coloured tees with jeans and one of my long cardigans on most days of the week because they are so incredibly versatile. However, I recently added a white shirt to my wardrobe as I haven’t owned one for years, and I’m really looking forward to including it as part of my future outfits. Other items I also bought recently are numbers 9 and 11. I’ve worn both of those pieces more than once already so I know they’re going to be worn often this season.

Skirts
I like to have an alternative to pants, so I include skirts, like dresses, because you never know when you might need a skirt to shake things up a bit.
Boots
To be honest, I haven’t had any reason to wear boots yet this Autumn as our weather has been particularly mild here lately. We’re still enjoying some beautiful sunny days in Auckland which I’m loving. Closed shoes seem to be doing the trick so far. Long may this last because in winter boots are a staple.

Trainers
I love my checkered Vans probably because they’re the craziest pair of shoes in my wardrobe! And my white Adidas trainers are also very well-used and loved. I’ve included a pair of Converse Hi-Tops here, but I haven’t bought them yet. I lost my other white Converse trainers to my daughter so I thought I’d invest in a pair of high-tops this time around because I’ve seen many style-savvy people on Instagram who are wearing them. Also, they’re not hugely expensive, so it’s a win-win. I would love to add a pair of Golden Goose trainers to this list too, but I might leave that for winter.
Shoes
The black loafers I own are looking a little worse for wear because they saw a lot of action last Autumn! They’re an ideal shoe for this season because they’ve got a little bit of a ‘winter in the front, summer in the back’ vibe going on. Haha. And my leather Rollie’s (middle) got so many compliments when I wore them this time last year too.
And see that pair of sandals on the far right? Well, I bought a tan pair of those on our last trip to Australia and I think I’d go so far as to say that those are my BEST shoes ever! Seriously. Those tan sandals are my absolute favourite because they are super-versatile, incredibly comfortable, and they’re perfect for 3 out of 4 seasons. And I’m not the only one who thinks so because those beauties are sold out in both colours! I visit their website regularly to check whether they’ve got more stock, but no luck so far, sadly.
So those are all the pieces in my first Autumn Capsule Wardrobe! Going forward I’m going to attempt the somewhat crazy task of taking outfit photos, to help me choose what to wear in future and to hopefully inspire myself to be more adventurous when putting outfits together.
So have you got an Autumn Capsule Wardrobe up and running? And if so, what are your hardest working pieces?
