I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for good book recommendations – that’s why I use the Goodreads app and follow book-related accounts on Instagram. And that’s why I’m sharing these book recommendations with you today. I love reading book recommendation blog posts, don’t you? So if you’re looking for some recommendations – you need to read these 5 brilliant books!

5 Brilliant Books You Need To Read

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

I found myself deeply drawn into the world of Kya Clark, the Marsh Girl who lived alone in the marshlands on the North Carolina coast for many years. Despite being dealt a raw deal in life, Kya Clark overcomes much hardship and lives an interesting life, making this story an exciting page-turner. Delia Owens’s writing brilliantly conveys the extraordinary life of this fascinating character, bringing her world to life with great clarity. Highly recommend.

Circe by Madeline Miller

I don’t normally seek out books about Greek gods, but when this book was recommended by two people I admire, I decided to try it. This story is about Circe, daughter of Helios, the god of the sun, who is rejected by her family because she lacks the look or voice of divinity. She turns to mortals for companionship and eventually discovers her power of witchcraft. You won’t want to put this book down because you’ll be so fascinated by Circe’s life story. Delightfully written. Highly recommend.

The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne

Written by the same author who wrote The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, this book will also burrow into your heart. John Boyne writes fiction firmly backed up by history and fact, about matters close to our hearts. He makes you reflect deeply on the way we think and behave, both as individuals and as a society. In this book, he beautifully describes the story of Ireland from the 1940s to the present day as experienced by the main character, Cyril Avery. Highly recommend.

Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell

Okay, so this one is an oldie, but if you haven’t read this book yet – do it now! I’d been wanting to read this book for years, and eventually decided to dust it off and read it. Again, I highly recommend this book because it challenges you to think differently about life. It looks at previously held truths from an unusual perspective and helps you to understand why certain things are the way they are.

This is how it always is by Laurie Frankel

And lastly, this beautiful and heartbreaking book is one I’ve been recommending to whoever asks me for a book suggestion. The story will break open your heart and your mind and you’ll be a better person for it. Claude, at the age of 5, tells his family that he wants to be a girl when he grows up. The story follows the lives of this extraordinary and brilliant family who live with the son who feels like he was born into the wrong body. The gentle way this book deals with this sensitive subject goes a long way to educate and enlighten. Highly recommend.

This is a novel everyone should read. It’s brilliant. It’s bold. And it’s time. – Elizabeth George
