I’ve been using beauty tools more and more in the past few years and I love them!
In fact, my collection of beauty tools grew substantially over the past year or so thanks to lockdowns when we couldn’t get to salons to have facials. That’s when I found myself doing online shopping for most of these beauty devices! Because having my own beauty tools and devices at home is a lovely luxury and just what I needed in my self-care routine.
So I thought I’d write a post listing the beauty tools that I now own, and tell you which ones I think actually do what they promise.
FOREO LUNA Facial Cleansing Brush
I love this little facial cleansing tool. When I first got it, it was such a novelty that I used it morning and night, every day. I now only tend to use it at night. But this is mostly because I’m a bit lazy.
Yes, you might think that you don’t really need a cleansing brush, but I have to say that this little tool really does make your skin feel incredibly clean. In addition, it feels like you’ve had a facial massage and it leaves your skin glowing which is amazing.
I did a review of this tool – you can read it here.

This massage tool helps with the loss of firmness and elasticity in the skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I would say that my face definitely feels more relaxed after using this tool and massage technique* that is designed to relieve tension in the facial muscles.
*Gua Shua is an ancient Chinese practice for energy flow and blood circulation. Lymphatic drainage, blood circulation and skin elasticity are all improved when using this tool.

This was the first beauty tool that I purchased and I loved using it as part of my skincare routine in the mornings. Now that I’ve bought more ‘advanced’ products, I don’t seem to use this roller much anymore. I do feel that it helps to soothe puffy eyes, so if you have puffy eyes in the mornings, this would soothe them.
It was during our first lockdown that I added this device to my collection. This microdermabrasion tool exfoliates the top layer of dead skin cells to reduce the appearance of fine lines, it evens out skin texture and lessens the appearance of dark spots and imperfections. It leaves your skin feeling super smooth. And once you’ve exfoliated your skin, your skincare products can be absorbed more easily into your skin.
I would say that this beauty tool works incredibly well. But I must add that have to follow the instructions carefully with this one. You have to know what you’re doing. But if you feel that you’re capable and you don’t overdo it, this tool certainly does what it claims to do.
This is a fantastic microneedling derma roller that helps the natural rejuvenation of the skin resulting in firmer, smoother skin. It is recommended to use this device 3 times a week in order to see results.
I first used a microneedling roller many years ago when Environ introduced them and I can see how this tool can potentially help to improve your skin. By making tiny holes in your skin with the needles (causing low-level trauma), your skin is encouraged to heal those little holes, resulting in skin regeneration and the boosting of collagen and elastin production. Also, your products can penetrate further down into the skin.
But while derma rollers work well to improve fine lines, acne scarring and hyperpigmentation, professional microneedling would achieve better results because they can use longer needles than the at-home dermal rollers use. This home device would be more cost-efficient, though.
This device massages and lifts your face and is designed with sonic vibrational technology to relax you. I haven’t had this beauty tool for long, but it hasn’t wowed me as much as I hoped it would. It promises to relax you, give you a healthy glow and make your skin feel and look lifted, contoured and temporarily revived. And yes, it might do that, but I reckon other devices might do that better.
This microcurrent facial toning device claims to define facial contours, reduce wrinkles and tighten sagging skin by stimulating the deeper tissues and muscles with gentle microcurrents. The tiny electric pulses tone your facial muscles and apparently make your skin cells create more collagen. And the definition, tone and texture of your skin should improve when using this device for just five minutes a day for 5 days a week.
It’s basically a workout for your facial muscles – making them contract and release and thereby making them stronger and firmer.
My verdict: I would say that this beauty tool delivers what it says it will. But consistency and patience are key – you have to use the Nuface regularly to see results. I feel that my skin definitely feels firmer after having used it for a few months now. Of course, your wrinkles won’t disappear, but I’ve seen enough of an improvement to convince me that it works. Of all my beauty tools, I think I love this one the most.
(There is also the NuFace Fix Line Smoothing Device, a smaller (and slightly cheaper) version which is also a good option. I used to have one of these but mine broke, unfortunately. I wish I still had it!)
This is an LED light therapy device that helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I’ve had this beauty tool for a long time now and I love that it’s so easy to use. My skin always feels lovely after I’ve used it, and it’s so relaxing. As an entry-level LED light therapy device, I would recommend this one.
CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask
I recently splurged and bought this light therapy mask. (They have a 20% discount at the moment.) And so far I’m loving it! It is so incredibly relaxing that if the treatment time was any longer than 10 minutes, I would fall asleep using it.
The CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask comes with red light and near-infrared light. “The red light helps stimulate collagen, calms redness, and evens skin tone. And the near-infrared light, the most powerful of the wavelengths, penetrates deep into the skin and accelerates healing. It regenerates cells, improves blood flow, and boosts oxygen to your cells.”
This device claims that it’s clinically proven to reduce wrinkles by 35% in 4 weeks. I’ll let you know my verdict after I’ve used it for at least 4 weeks.
Beauty Tools – conclusion
With all of these beauty tools, consistency and regular use are important. But these home beauty devices aren’t miracle workers, unfortunately. Any device that you can do at home without any training cannot be too strong or dangerous! However, I think if you view them as part of your self-care routine and they relax you, then they’re worth it. And if they do deliver some real benefits like slowing down the signs of ageing – well then that’s even better!
