The three books I read in March 2025 were all great.
Have you read this series by Fredrik Backman? I’m late to this party, but I’m enjoying the goings-on in this town and have become very fond of some of the characters in this ongoing story.
And the third book I read back in March? Wow. Just wow.
Beartown – by Fredrik Backman

This is the first book of the Beartown series and after finishing it I was hooked and immediately started the next one! This is the story of a small community deep in the forest that lives and breathes ice hockey. You may think, nah, I’m not into ice hockey, but don’t be put off. I’ve read a few of Fredrik Backman’s other books and he has a lovely way of writing that keeps you intrigued no matter the subject. This book introduces all the characters, immediately drawing you into this community. And I quickly grew very involved in this little town. The pace of the writing is soothing, but again, don’t be fooled because there’s also a fair amount of tension and shock as the town heads into the championship final.
My rating is 4/5.

Us Against You – by Fredrik Backman

Book number two in this series deals with the consequences of the happenings in the first book and how they affect the players and the entire town. Consequences mean that the ice hockey landscape looks very different. Changes to the team and the coach cause huge upheaval. And after the final game of this season, one of the town residents will be dead and everyone will be wondering whether they will ever see better times.

The Tell – by Amy Griffin

I read this book in one day because once I started it, I could not put it down. Also, Amy Griffin has a way of writing that is easy to read. And I think that’s especially important for this book because the subject matter is dark and harrowing. Be warned. This book is about Amy’s journey through psychedelic therapy, back to Texas where her life began. In searching for the truth of why she feels the way she does, Amy questions her need for perfectionism and control. A heartbreaking and brutally honest story, it highlights the resilience of women. It also shows how our bodies can remember even when our minds have blocked things. And it demonstrates how much courage is needed to move through trauma.
My rating is 5/5.
