The 2 inspirational books I read and enjoyed in October

the books I read in October

I read two non-fiction books in October which, I feel, accurately reflects where my mind is at right now.

You would think that I could do with some light fiction to distract myself from all that is going on in the world at the moment, but in reality, I need reading material that is nurturing in a practical sense. So all I could manage was coffee table reference books with big pictures. Go figure.

The two inspirational (and helpful) books I read in October

Fearless – by Trinny Woodall

Now I will admit that this book isn’t written brilliantly, but I’m still very pleased with my purchase because it’s filled with a wealth of fantastic information that is presented in a very user-friendly way. I found every chapter to be beneficial, and I love that it includes practical tips that come from real-life knowledge. Trinny has many years of experience when it comes to dressing to suit your body and now with her beauty company, she offers even more helpful knowledge about skincare and makeup – especially for women in midlife.

I love that she wants to help women to feel good about themselves. She views the clothes we wear, good makeup techniques and caring for our skin as anything but frivolous. Through her chapters Identify, Life, Beauty and Style, she shows women how we can build our confidence and essentially become fearless at this stage of our lives.

You will be treated to some of Trinny’s personal stories but you’ll also find out which colours & styles suit your face and body shape, how to deal with various life challenges, and what skincare products actually do. My overall rating is 4/5.

Live Beautiful – by Athena Calderone

I’ve owned this book for a very long time, but never finished reading it, managing only to flip through the pages and appreciate all the beautiful rooms. But towards the end of last month, I finally read the book in its entirety and can honestly say that it’s a goodie. Not only are the photos and the decor beautiful, but the writing is also exquisite. There is an undeniable style and grace that is evident throughout the book.  And it soothed my agitated mind while also exciting my desire to appreciate my own home more, and possibly tackle a few jobs that I’ve been putting off for too long. This is a stunning coffee table book to own because you can dip in whenever you need some calm. My rating is 5/5.
