Self-Care and 5 Awesome Beauty Products You Need in Your Life

5 beauty products

Do you make time for self-care? Is it something you prioritise in your life or do you struggle to include it in your routine? As I mentioned in my New Year’s post, I’ve decided to make self-care a top priority for me this year. So much so that I have now decided to make it my “word” for 2019.

Self-care – the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health.

In my opinion, self-care touches on so much more than the obvious basics. To me, it means seriously thinking about how I eat, drink, sleep, exercise, keep my mind active, mature spiritually, connect with others and grow. And not only thinking about it but then implementing elements that will improve my overall health. This will be my year of looking inward and striving to be the best version of myself possible.

So when I say self-care here I’m not talking about basic self-care, I’m talking about something deeper. I’m talking about taking a shower (basic) with an exfoliator and a special body wash. I’m saying that I want to read more books that inspire me. I want to go on adventurous walks. I want to get regular facials and more sleep. Also, I plan to start doing yoga more seriously and practice daily meditation.  Ultimately I want to add deeper extras to my everyday routine to feed my body, skin, mind and happiness. And I’m going to endeavour to look at products and experiences that will positively benefit me because as a middle-aged woman, I feel like I need this more and more each year.

I plan to explore this self-care theme more on the blog, so I thought I’d start by showing you a few skincare and makeup products that I recently purchased and am now using to boost my skin self-care routine. Some of these are firm favourites already!

The 5 products

Top Left – Dr Dennis Gross – Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel

I have previously bought the milder version of these and I will go back to using those as I found the Extra Strength ones a little too strong for my skin. But the milder ones were awesome! I’ve included a peel here because it helps middle-aged skin to look fresher and brighter. Recommend.

Middle – Wunder 2 Brow Gel

I decided to buy this product because of the many great reviews I read about it on the internet. And I can attest to the fact that it lasts – mine lasts 2-3 days which is a real win when it comes to cutting down on makeup application time. Also, this brow gel helps to combat the thin eyebrow look that happens in our midlife years. Recommend.

Top Right – Good Genes by Sunday Riley

I’m absolutely in love with this product! I saw it mentioned by a blogger I follow and whose opinion I rate – and she raves about it. Not only does it smell divine, but more importantly, I can see a visible improvement in my skin after I use it. Good Genes is lactic acid and what that does is break down the material that holds dead skin cells together. It is one of the most popular AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) that helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It smooths the skin and also helps to treat hyperpigmentation and a dull complexion. Highly Recommend.

Bottom Left – Eve Lom Rescue Mask

I love a good mask! And the truth is I like to mix it up a bit in the mask department. I enjoy sheet masks (fun, but maybe not brilliant), rubber masks, hydrating masks (soft and soothing) and masks that dry my skin. This Eve Lom Rescue Mask dries hard which is great because I feel that my skin always feels so soft after removing it. Recommend.

Bottom Right – Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner

Normally I buy a black eyeliner, but this time I opted for a brown version after seeing my sister use it on her eyelids and it looked so good. This eyeliner goes on very easily and I use it when I’m going for a more natural look. It gives me definition and colour without too much effort and that’s always a win. Highly recommend.
