My five favourites – the March edition

my five favourites

Hello. The weather is starting to cool down here in the land of the long white cloud. And I must say that I’m actually getting excited about wearing my winter clothing again. I even upped my loungewear game and bought a tracksuit set (photo evidence) to be cosy this winter while I watch Netflix. Or read in a comfy chair. Or actually, do some exercise in?

Anyway, I’ve been wanting to share My five favourites for March with you:

My Five Favourites

March has been a real mixed bag when it comes to what we’ve been watching.

We watched a wacky movie called Bliss earlier this month, about a man (Owen Wilson) and a woman (Salma Hayek) who believe they are living in a simulated reality. When their new world starts to mix into their real-world, things get weird. A very clever movie so I would recommend watching this one.

We then watched the Catch-22 series based on the Joseph Heller novel of the same name. Beautifully filmed. Recommend.

We then watch Tenet and let me just say that I was incredibly confused after this movie. And if Twitter is anything to go by, the hashtag for the movie confirmed that many other people were also confused! I mean I could understand the concept, of course, but it took A LOT of brainpower to understand the concept play by play. Anyway, it’s a fascinating film and very clever. But maybe too clever?

The Map of Tiny Perfect Things tells the story of a teen named Mark who lives the same day in an endless loop. He meets a girl called Margaret, who is stuck in her own time loop, in the same town. They form a connection and out of boredom set out to find all the tiny things that make that one day perfect. This is a very sweet ‘Groundhog Day’ type of movie, reminding us to always look for the beauty in our lives.

We really loved Season 1 of Tell me your secrets because it had just the right amount of intrigue and storyline. Also, the acting was superb. Emma (Lily Rabe) starts her new life in witness protection at the same time as Mary (Amy Brenneman), a mother searching for her missing daughter, discovers that Emma might be responsible for her daughter’s disappearance. This thriller/drama keeps you guessing and even chewing on your fingernails at certain times. It’s so good. Don’t miss it. I’m really hoping Season 2 gets the go-ahead.

I’m your woman is a ‘neo-noir crime film’ starring Rachel Brosnahan. Jean (Brosnahan) plays a woman on the run after her mobster husband disappears. Of all the movies we watched this month, this one was my favourite.

So I eventually watched The Queen’s Gambit. Late to the party, I know, but I’m so glad I’ve seen it now because it was marvellous. Love a movie with a great leading lady and storyline.

And lastly, we watched The Dig, starring Ralph Fiennes and Carey Mulligan, two phenomenal actors who were fantastic in this film. This movie is set just before WWII begins and tells the story of a widow (Carey Mulligan) who hires an amateur archaeologist (Ralph Fiennes) to excavate the burial mounds on her estate. The excavation leads to an amazing find. Lovely drama.

Book Recommendation

I didn’t read any books this month, but I have downloaded this highly rated book and I’m looking forward to starting it soon.
