My five favourites – the February edition

my five favourites

Well hello! It would appear that all I’m capable of publishing at the moment are my five favourites posts! *smh* I just haven’t been in the right headspace lately to write anything meatier, I’m afraid. But with Auckland having just gone into another Level 3 lockdown, who knows? I might very well find the time and inclination to write something in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, here are My five favourites for February:

My Five Favourites

I don’t know about you, but we’re finding it increasingly difficult to find great programmes and movies to watch. I think that’s owing to a general feeling of viewing fatigue more than anything else. But despite all that, we have found some goodies this past month:

CB Strike is a British crime drama series written by JK Rowling. The series follows the cases of a war veteran turned private detective, CB Strike, who is just starting his detective business in London.

And for those of you who love a Tom Hanks movie, you’re in for a treat with the Western, News of the world. Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, a Civil War veteran (Hanks), comes across a young girl who has fallen on bad times and takes it upon himself to return her to her family.

Dark Waters is a legal drama based on Robert Bilott’s case against the chemical manufacturing company, DuPont, after they contaminated a town with unregulated chemicals. Pretty heavy topic, but so well done. And there are lots of big names in this one – Mark Ruffalo, Anne Hathaway, Bill Pullman and Tim Robbins.

I care a lot is a satirical comedy-thriller about a court-appointed legal guardian (Rosamund Pike) who scams her wards. Things go awry when she chooses the wrong person to scam. I enjoyed this one but found myself quite outraged at times.

And we’ve just finished Season 1 of Ginny and Georgia – a drama series about a mom and daughter who live an unconventional life. This series is possibly more suited to a younger audience, but there is an intriguing (read: dangerous) thread running through this one that kept us coming back for more. Also, the writing is good and tackles some complex issues. Worth a watch.

Book Recommendation

This month I’ve read these three FABULOUS books which I’d definitely recommend. I also read and loved Alice Hart-Davis’s The Tweakments Guide books – Start with Skincare and Fresher Face – both of which were incredibly informative. You’ll love them if you’re interested in skincare.

My Five Favourites

I’ve recently started following The silver lining 1970 and I love seeing Luisa’s “growing silver hair diary”. If you’re thinking about (or already are) going fully grey, this might be a fun account to follow.

And if you (like me) need some meal inspiration (or simply love looking at beautiful photos of food), then you might also enjoy Tieghan Gerard’s account Halfbakedharvest.

My Five Favourites

My podcast pick for this month is Hot Flashes and Cool Topics – Riku Campo – Celebrity Makeup artist for women over 40. I loved listening to this makeup artist’s fantastic makeup tips for women over 40.

My Five Favourites

This is my new favourite cleanser.

On the Other Side of Menopause A thought-provoking piece by Lisa Renee.

This post on Instagram resonated.

And that’s all for this month’s edition of My five favourites. I’ll be back with the March edition at the end of next month. Check the ‘Regulars’ dropdown menu for all of My five favourites posts, if you’re looking for more suggestions.

I love your five favourites and always take away a couple things to try. I just started listening to Hot Flashes and Cool Topics and the makeup tips is in que for tomorrow :). I feel your pain with finding it hard to write the meaty stuff right now – give yourself the grace to ease back in to it all 🙂

Thanks for reading, Christine! I don’t know about you, but I’m also finding that I’m being more discerning about the blog posts I read at the moment. I don’t seem to have the capacity to read about some topics right now. But yes, I’m slowly easing back into things on the writing front and will hopefully get some more substantial posts out soon. Hope you’re well. 🙂
