Yes, I only read one book in July. Shock and horror! But there’s a good reason why.
You may or may not know that I was travelling in July. (How do you know whether someone travelled recently? Don’t worry, they’ll tell you!) 😉 But yes, I’ve recently returned from an epic holiday in Puglia, Sicily, Mallorca and England. And I got to see and do A LOT during my almost six weeks away.
Usually when you think of a summer holiday – you think of relaxing on the beach or next to a pool, and while I certainly did my fair share of those things, there was also a lot of exploring, walking, sightseeing, eating out and swimming. In addition to that, we were a big group so there was lots of chatting, catching up and planning for each day. All I had the energy for, after a big day out, was helping with dinner prep (if we weren’t going out), chatting, culling the thousands of photos I’d taken that day, showering and going to sleep.
Seeing so much, learning new things and dealing with the stress of driving in some of the areas we visited took its toll on my physical and mental capacity. I found that I couldn’t focus on reading much. Princess problems, I know. But there it is. (Also, this book is 784 pages long!)
The only book I read in July
Atlas – The Story of Pa Salt by Lucinda Riley and Harry Whittaker
This is the eighth and last book in the Seven Sisters series written by Lucinda Riley. The seventh book, The Missing Sister, was published in May 2021, and very sadly, Lucinda Riley died in June 2021. Luckily for her readers, however, she had been planning the final book well before she died.
Back in 2016, she had written thirty pages of script dialogue for a Hollywood production company that was interested in the film rights to the book series. And then, after an oesophageal cancer diagnosis in 2017, she asked her son, Harry Whittaker to complete the series should she succumb to her illness before she’d finished writing it. Harry fulfilled his promise and co-wrote this final book of the series.
If you haven’t read this series yet, I’d recommend it. I’m not normally fond of a series, but I’m pleased I gave this one a chance. Each book was different in that it was based on a different sister, from a different country. And this final book brought all the stories together and revealed the truth behind a lifetime of secrecy.
