Fantastic workout gear for women over 50 that may even inspire you to exercise more

Workout gear for women over 50

Choosing new workout gear for women over 50 can be a daunting task. I say this because I feel this way. And maybe you do too?

I tend to walk into sports stores, become overwhelmed and leave without buying anything. And the reason for this is two-fold, I think. Firstly, good workout gear can be pretty pricey and I don’t want to make a costly mistake by buying items that don’t look good together. And secondly, I’m not clear about what I need.

Embarrassingly, this procrastination has meant that I’ve had my two pairs of black leggings for over 5 years now so I’m long overdue an update. I’ve reached a point where my workout gear looks so worn that I’m blaming it for my recent lethargy towards exercise.

But I know that when I was gifted a Lululemon top recently I felt more inspired to exercise, so I’ve decided to forge ahead and invest in a few more pieces.

Firstly, why should women over 50 wear great workout gear?

  1. Comfort: As women age, our bodies change, and our needs may change. We may find that we need good design and high-quality materials that are more breathable to provide even more comfort, support, and flexibility during our workouts.

  2. Confidence & Inspiration: Investing in fashionable and functional workout gear can make women over 50 feel more confident and motivated to exercise. And we all know that exercising becomes increasingly vital as we age. So feeling good about our appearance can boost our self-esteem and help us maintain a positive attitude towards fitness. This is so very true, don’t you think?

Ultimately, the decision to wear great workout gear is a personal one, and women over 50 should choose what makes them feel comfortable, confident, and motivated to stay active and healthy.

Remember – comfort is key. And choose workout gear that makes you feel confident, and suits your type of workout.

Secondly, what do I need?

This would depend on what type of exercises you’ll be doing, so I’ve put together a few ideas for a range of exercises here:

Biking and Hiking

Long or short leggings, full-length joggers, loose-fitting short/long tops, tanks, trainers, a jacket, a cap

Yoga and Pilates

3/4 leggings, loose fit bottoms, bra support top, looser fitting tank top, non-slip socks

Walking and Running

3/4 or short leggings, tank top, long top or lightweight jacket when it’s cooler, running shoes, cap

Home Workouts

3/4 or long leggings, bra support top and non-slip socks

In conclusion

Workout gear does not have to be expensive, but I will say that wearing well-designed gear that is made with good-quality fabric does make a difference. And those pricier pieces do tend to last far longer than cheaper versions. Material and design have come a long way over the years.

Ultimately I’m looking for a few pieces that I can mix and match so that I can easily throw an outfit together and look the part. I’m going to start with a new pair of leggings, a tank top and a zip-up hoodie, I think. Oh, and I’m also in the market for a new pair of trainers. When it comes to colour, I tend to opt for black because you can’t go wrong with that colour, can you? But next time I’m going to try something more colourful for a bit of excitement.

How about you? Do you need some new workout gear?
