All the books I read in January 2025

The books I read in January 2025 were all fabulous. There was fiction and non-fiction, old and new.

I’ve already told you about the first two books I read in January, but I want to include them in this post in case your New Year’s goals include decluttering your home, or you haven’t read my post about how I’m getting organised this year yet. Because I’d highly recommend both of these books to set you up for success. And they make fabulous coffee table books that you can then easily reference whenever you need inspiration.

Minimalista – by Shira Gill

Shira Gill’s first book, Minimalista, is my favourite of her books. It outlines the concept of decluttering in a few simple, clever steps (her 5-step process, to be exact) and then helps you as you use the method throughout your home. If you want to declutter your home, I’d highly recommend this book.

My rating is 5/5.

Organised Living – by Shira Gill

Her second book, Organised Living, details the decluttering tips of a range of organisers from around the world. It was fascinating to see how many similarities there are between all good organisers. I picked up so many more good tips to use in my home.

My rating is 5/5.

Before the coffee gets cold – by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

In a small back alley in Tokyo, there is a coffee shop that is like no other. This coffee shop not only offers its customers its own brewed coffee but also the unique opportunity to travel back in time! This book tells the stories of four visitors who take up this exciting but risky offer. You see, there are a few rules, and the most important one is that they have to return to the present before their coffee gets cold. This was a sweet story about love and friendship and missed opportunities and lessons. A calm, thought-provoking book that you won’t regret reading.

Orbital – by Samantha Harvey

This poetic, beautifully written novel about six astronauts in the International Space Station circumnavigating the world won the 2024 Booker Prize. I was struck by the author’s beautifully constructed sentences on more than one occasion. This book, while relatively short, took me a while to read because I wanted to appreciate every word. I loved it’s viewpoint and message about humanity and life on earth.

My rating is 4/5.

My TBR list is enormous, but I only read four books in January because reading those first two books included lots of note-taking and answering difficult questions. I was then also inspired to start my decluttering process which took up a substantial part of January for me.

I don’t say this to bemoan the situation because it was a welcome distraction. I love all the promises of January and new beginnings. I also accept that there are seasons for everything in life, and while reading is one of my favourite pastimes, I do have other goals that I also want to spend time on this year.

Have you read anything good lately?
