7 of the best things to do on Koh Samui

7 of the best things to do on Koh Samui

Koh Samui is a fun place to visit if you love tropical islands, going to the beach, sipping cocktails, eating Pad Thai and visiting temples. (I mean, what’s not to love?!) I was lucky enough to spend a week there recently (see my post Have you ever been on a girls trip? for more about that) – and I enjoyed every minute.

If you’re planning a trip to Koh Samui and are looking for some suggestions for when you’re visiting, here are 7 of the best things we did and loved.

7 of the best things to do on Koh Samui

1. Have a coffee (or a cocktail!) at The Library

This novel (sorry, I couldn’t help myself) hotel is right on Chaweng Beach and is a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery.

2. Swim (and have a swing) at Chaweng Beach

Chaweng Beach is one of the most well-known (and loveliest) beaches on the island and I’d highly recommend having a long walk along its soft, white sand and taking a dip in the beautiful, blue water. On the day we were there the water was so warm and clear.

3. Eat lots of fruit

The mango was definitely my favourite, but the lychees were pretty good too. And the watermelon. And and and. The fruit just seems to taste so much sweeter when you’re on this island.

4. Visit Wat Plai Laen to see the beautiful temples

Everyone talks about visiting Big Buddha, but I found Wat Plai Lae more impressive. For starters, there is so much more to see. And then the intricate details on the temples blew my mind. And the colours! I couldn’t stop taking photos (see below).

5. Have a cocktail at the Jungle Club

The views are sensational from up here! And the drive up is another great reason to visit – especially if you love an adrenalin rush. 😉

6. Have the crab pasta dish at Ad Hoc

Sadly I don’t have any photos of my dish on the night we went there for dinner, but believe me when I say it was delicious! This is a good restaurant to go to if you are craving Italian food or simply don’t feel like a Thai meal that day. So yum. And the owner and staff are incredibly friendly.

7. Visit Big Buddha and do some shopping there afterwards

You can see this Buddha from a distance across the island because it sits on top of a hill. And while it’s an impressive buddha, and worth a visit, the views are also pretty awesome from up there. And there are quite a few good shops next to the parking area so you can also grab a few souvenirs while you’re there. Win-win.

Bonus suggestion: Do a boat trip to Ang Thong National Marine Park

I didn’t visit the marine park on this trip, but it looks beautiful in the photos of that place. And besides, I’ve got to leave something for next time, don’t I?
