5 inexpensive souvenirs I bought in Vietnam and Cambodia

The memories we make when travelling are irreplaceable and often a big reason why we travel. Those experiences expand our minds and hearts and add depth to our lives that no physical object can match.

Having said that, there’s something to be said for bringing back a small souvenir to remind you of your adventure. And it doesn’t have to be anything elaborate. The best things can often be those simple things that you use.

Here are some items I look for when we’re away – things that are easy to pack in my suitcase and don’t weigh a ton.

Inexpensive souvenirs I brought back from Vietnam and Cambodia

Dishtowels – these are easy to find in most places, are light to pack and can be a daily reminder of a happy holiday. The ones I bought in Cambodia are of beautiful quality (worth investing in), wash well and give me endless joy.

Teaspoons – Again, these are small and light enough to pack and are a practical addition to your everyday routines. Who doesn’t need a cute teaspoon for when friends come for tea? I bought six small shell spoons that I use for jams.

A piece of jewellery – It doesn’t have to be expensive. I bought a bead bracelet that I wear almost every day, and it’s a constant reminder of our time in Vietnam.

Soft, fabric cosmetic/makeup bags – I don’t know about you, but I can never have enough beautiful little fabric bags! They are so useful when travelling – I use them for my charging cables and SPFs when I go on a beach vacation or the plane for everything I’ll need for freshening up at the end of a long-haul flight.

Bottle openers – These are easy to find in most markets and you can normally find at least one stylish enough to take home with you.

Postcards or prints – If you’re an art lover, this is a brilliant way to bring a bit of your adventure home. You can get them framed on your return and fill your home with meaningful objects that tell a story.

Scarves – If you love scarves and wear or use them often, this is a great idea.

Fridge magnets – It can be difficult to find tasteful fridge magnets, but I’m always on the lookout for something fun and unique that will bring back good memories when I open the fridge for a snack. If you don’t like the messy look of magnets on your fridge, you may want to give this a miss.

Something for your collections – Do you collect teapots, jugs or bells? Maybe you love hats or coasters? These are a fabulous way to remember your trip.

I was especially blown away by the quality of the inexpensive souvenirs that I brought back from Vietnam and Cambodia. Yes, there were also a lot of plastic and fake brands that can be found at every big market. But the trick is to find the small, independent stores that often sell products made by locals. These were the stores where I found my best treasures.
