5 Christmas Day outfit ideas for your family get-together

Christmas Outfit Ideas

How do you decide what to wear on Christmas day? Do you pick a colour theme for the family get-together? Do you choose something festive that you wouldn’t wear at any other time of the year? (Read: sparkly or something with a reindeer on it.) Or do you opt for an everyday, casual, anything-goes approach? (Read: listen, co-ordinated dressing is a step too far.)

In recent years, our family has gone for casual with a colour theme.  And I love this idea because it’s easy (most years, I already have something in my wardrobe that would work) and it makes the family photos look like you hired a semi-professional photographer. Haha.

It’s worth pointing out that living in the Southern Hemisphere means we don’t get to wear festive woolly jumpers, so choosing a colour theme makes up for losing that. In addition to that, it’s normally too warm to wear anything too formal or glittery, so casual tends to win out.

That doesn’t mean smart casual is off the table, of course. And if you can manage to pull off a sequence number without having a hot flush, all power to you. So, with that in mind, here are a few outfits that I love.

First up is this mint-coloured linen outfit that would be perfect for a hostess who’ll be busy sorting out the last-minute arrangements before the meal is served. I particularly like the back detail on this top.

Next up is this dusty pink two-piece that would work well if you’re going to your in-law’s family this year. Being a guest and not on cooking duty allows for a slightly smarter look that would perfectly suit carrying a couple of dishes to the table.

This dress is casual but special. I adore the tie details on the shoulders. Bows are everything this year. Also, the flowy situation is perfect for when you overeat, I reckon.

And for those who like a bit of glitz and glamour, this skirt is adorable. It’s a good length and has an elastic waistband. Sold! (But hurry, there are only a few sizes left.) Bonus:  you could wear it on NYE, too. I added this cute jumper for anyone in the Southern Hemisphere who runs cold (or anyone who lives in the Northern Hemisphere).

And how cool are these wide-leg metallic jeans? (Hurry, these are also selling out fast.) If your family celebrates on Christmas Eve or Christmas night, this option may work for you, paired with a thin jumper or a white shirt.

And I’ve included a few shoe and bag options if you’re not that into the festive dressing, but want to make a bit of an effort.

Happy festive season outfit planning!

Yeah, but maybe those metallic jeans or the ho, ho, ho jumper would work? 😂
